ABOUT Kalidou

Kalidou Kassé is a pioneering Senegalese contemporary artist whose bold vision and technical mastery have positioned him among Africa’s most influential visual creators.

Born in Diourbel in 1957, Kassé draws inspiration from the landscapes, rhythms and cultural heritage of the Sahel region, transforming vibrant colour, mixed media painting and sculptural forms into compelling explorations of identity, tradition and modernity.

As founder of the “Ateliers du Sahel” and an educational mentor in Senegal’s visual-arts ecosystem, he has contributed not only through his own artwork but also by cultivating the next generation of African artists and advancing the global conversation around African art.

Kassé’s works have been exhibited internationally in major collections across Africa, Europe, North America and Asia, affirming his status as a global ambassador for African visual culture.

With a practice rooted in both artistic innovation and cultural legacy, Kalidou Kassé invites viewers into a world where the colours of Senegal speak universal truths, and where the brush of the Sahel becomes a tool for contemporary expression.

His works are part of prestigious public and private collections, including the United Nations, World Bank, Senate of France, Presidency of Senegal, Royal Palace of Morocco, and African Development Bank, as well as the personal collections of Barack and Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton.
